The entry criteria are: A primary, documented, diagnosis of Autism or Asperger’s Syndrome. Additional Learning needs. Students are referred to the school, via Southwark Education Authority, by both mainstream primary schools and specialist provisions. The school is a regional resource and takes students from both Southwark and other Local Education Authorities. Students may be referred to us at year 6 or at any stage during their secondary education. We place a high importance on the issues of transition from primary to secondary provision and also admissions from other secondary schools. Parents/Carers are invited to visit the school before making their choice for secondary education. Regular visiting mornings allows parents/carers to see the school in operation and meet students and staff.
Visits to the school for new students usually run during the summer term and support the move from primary to secondary education. Students spend time in the school with familiar staff from their primary setting as well as working with the relevant staff from Spa School.
To help with the particularly difficult summer period following the end of primary education, students are given a personal book, written by students. This gives our youngsters something concrete to refer to before starting with us in September. They are also given photos of key staff with whom they will be working in school.
