Therapies at Spa School
Speech and Language Therapy
We have two speech and language therapists (SALT) who are based at th4e school three days a week. Therapists work alongside teachers and teaching teams and support the use of communication systems such as PECs, iPads and Makaton. Therapists set individual targets based on EHC outcomes and put strategies in place to help students achieve those outcomes which are then delivered by the teaching teams.
Our Occupational Therapist (OT) works with students one day a week. The therapist works with students either individually or as part of a small group and works towards physical and sensory EHC outcomes. The Occupational Therapist helps to identify students who may benefit from a sensory diet and works with teaching teams to develop and implement them.
We have a music therapist 1 day a week. The therapist supports students in small groups or individually according to similarities and need.
We have speech and language therapists (S.A.L.T.) 4 days a week.
The speech and language therapists assess all the students in the school for their communication needs. Individual targets are set in consultation with the class teachers and reviewed regularly. The therapists work with students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups accordingly. Suitable communication resources are identified such as use of an iPad with a communication programme or picture exchange communication systems (PECS) and the class teams work with the students to develop their communication throughout the day.1 to support students individually after assessing their physical or sensory needs.
